Known as the ‘Olympics of Water’ The Berkeley Springs Winter Festival of Waters was held over four days in West Virginia where seventy waters from 12 countries and 22 States competed for medals. The prestigious Gold medal for sparkling bottled water went to Antipodes water New Zealand. The waters are judged for overall quality including appearance, aroma, taste, mouth-feel and aftertaste. The Antipodes water comes from a deep 500 – 1000ft deep pressured aquifer and has a residency of about 50 years while filtering through a sub strata of ignimbrite. The area of recharge for the aquifer is the Rotoma Hills, which has a historically low human population density, less than 1 person per 250 acre, with no commercial or industrial activity.
