Descrption: Who needs American Idol? The Orange Cats are out to prove that you don't have to sell one CD in order to go platinum. The R&B duo are on their way to becoming the first platinum selling artist strictly on the Internet.
The Orange Cats are fast becoming one of the top selling and most Influential artist today. What's so impressive about that? Well the answer lies in the fact that The Orange Cats sell their music strictly on the Internet. "This is the way of the future" M'Shala says, "Everyone is so worried about illegal downloads but the truth is there are millions of people that actually pay for music online. We decided to exploit that and find our entire fan base in cyberspace. Technology has changed the music industry. The Orange Cats are distributed worldwide and it doesn’t take a million dollars to sell a million records.”
Atlanta native M’Shala and Hollis Jae from Buffalo came together at a chance meeting in a music store in Columbus, Ohio. They wrote and recorded one song that day and have been working together ever since. “We have done it all.” Hollis Jae speaks in his trademark lazy voice, “We lived in a car hustlin’ CD’s just to eat. We sat first row at The Source and Lady of Soul Awards. What’s crazy about that is we’d leave the shows and park around the corner to sleep.”
When you meet “The OC’s” the first thing you notice is the orange masks. When asked about it M’Shala simply states “That’s the point! When we were just a couple of dudes with a walkman slingin’ CD’s on Venice Beach nobody gave a dam. We are the same cats that walked into offices of every major label and most Indies singing like fools just to get escorted out the door by security. Now everywhere we go the same people ask us to remove the masks, they wanna’ see what’s underneath. Well, you already know me! It’s about the music.”
2006 looks to be a record breaking year for “The Cats”. With two albums firmly under their belt “Gangstalicious” and “Welcome to the Room” both of which have been selling well from their website www.theorangecats.com The Orange Cats are back in The Lions’ Den working on the third album “The Baby Maker” which solidifies what they already know. The future is now the group is The Orange Cats and they’ll be the first to tell you “this ain’t ya mommas’ R&B” |
