Descrption: The global initiative for inclusive ICTs
The non-profit organization e-ISOTIS (information Society Open to Impairments), participated in the Global Forum of the United Nations Global Initiative for Inclusive Information and Communication Technologies (G3ICT) that took place at United Nations Headquarters in New York, on 26 of March as to present its European collaborations and initiatives related to ICT and disabilities. More specifically, it presented the European project ASK-IT (www.ask-it.org ) that e-ISOTIS is involved in its implementation, and it aims to advance the mobility of people with disabilities from one European city to another with the development of advanced ICT systems. G3ICT is designed as a two-year program to foster multi-stakeholder participation and dialogue. Key representatives from all stakeholders from the private sector, public sector, and non-governmental organizations concerned by issues related to ICTs and persons living with disabilities are participating in this initiative. This first Global Forum of the UN Global Initiative for Inclusive Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) that took place on the 26th March 2007 was consisted of 150 representatives of industry, government, academia and civil society, and was organized by the UN Global Alliance for ICT and Development and the Boston-based Wireless Internet Institute in cooperation with the Secretariat of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. e-ISOTIS is a non-profit making organisation founded in January 2004, that works for People with Disabilities, their families as well as key players of the ICT (Information Communication Technology) and training/research community from the whole globe. Currently, its network of disabled and elderly individuals as end-users, associations of disabled and elderly, ICT industry players, training/research institutions and universities expands not only through the whole Europe but also in Australia, China, US as well as in many other non-European countries. Quote from Nikolaos Floratos that represented e-ISOTIS in this forum “IS stands not only for Information Society but also for Inclusive Society.” Communication Manager: Katerina Antonopoulou, katerina@e-isotis.org. |
