Descrption: Despite holding the crown of America's top selling roadster throughout the 16 years since it's launch in 1989, the Mazda MX-5 Miata has been pushed off the top spot in 2006 by Pontiac's Solstice. The Mazda's sales have kept strong and despite the introduction of a folding hardtop model in the latter part of the year the new Solstice has rapidly moved in on the Miata's territory.
For the first eleven months of 2006 the sales figures are of 18,361 of the Pontiac roadster, compared to 15,873 of the Mazda. Even more surprising is that these figures don't include the numbers for the Saturn Sky which is a model built on the same GM platform as the Solstice and has also had an excellent reception.
The roadster market takes up a considerable share of the overall convertible car sector, with roasters classed as a two-door, two-seat automobile.
