Descrption: January 5th , the 87th anniversary day of the Nazi party. The Sober-Z Worm is expected to download a malicious code, as it works on a preplanned timer. Some sober variants were known to work in this fashion in the past too, however this one is different due to its political connection.
The worm works with a pre-decided timer where the infected computer will download a new payload, which will be spammed in very large numbers. The "SoBig" worm in the year 2003 is an example from the past, where embedded dates were used. It regularly created new versions and deactivated the earlier ones.
Hacktivism, where the virus takes a political shade, finds a big follower with this worm. Millions of netizens have already received the damaging e-mail and one would need to wait and watch the extent of damage to be caused by the newly downloaded code.
The Sober worm class, originated two years ago, steals addresses from the targeted computer and performs mass-mailing with attached copies of itself. It has more than 30 variants and is sent with bilingual messages, German and English. The Sober worm has employed a range of methods to reach the targets in the last few months. There was even a mail that claims to be from the FBI, which was used successfully to spread the infection.
Resolution MicroWorld has developed an intelligent and powerful Spam Control System that will help you avoid mails like this. Timely updates of MicroWorld products will enable you to keep off threats of this nature.
You can also download the trial versions of the software from the above mentioned website. |
