Descrption:
Cooking for large family gatherings on holidays, such as Mother’s Day, can be stressful, but it doesn’t have to be. Susan Thacker, author of Supper Swapping has written about the trend of splitting cooking prep with a friend in order to have more meals with less trouble. She says the idea of splitting cooking also works well when entertaining.
Thacker says she began trading meals with a friend nine years ago. “My friend and I just increased what we would normally make for our families and swapped the extra portion. Eventually, we discovered we could also split holiday cooking if we had parties on the same day as each other.”
When Thacker participated in the Grand Wine and Food Affair in Sugar Land Texas, she learned that several people who bought her cookbook at the event said they were already trading meals with a neighbor. “One man told me that he installed a gate between his yard and his neighbor’s yard so that they could swap grilled meats more easily on Saturdays. Only they would typically grill all day and invite lots of guests. Their guests would mingle between the two yards,” Thacker said. She believes that friends, relatives, or even co-workers can split the work when entertaining. She calls this “Entertaining in Tandem.”
Thacker provides three tips for trying Supper Swapping to your Mother’s Day Lunch. For recipes and ideas, visit www.supperswapping.com
