Press Release 2 March,2005. MicroWorld Technologies Inc., provider of content security solutions, has recently released a new, upgraded, and apparently more powerful version of its free virus scanning utility - MicroWorld Antivirus (MWAV) Toolkit Utility.

Some of the new features can detect porno dialers, adware, spyware and riskware. Additionally, MWAV can now update itself automatically so that it can scan for all the new viruses. The toolkit utility can also activate itself for removing/disinfecting worms and viruses apart from weeding out worms that attach themselves to browsers like Internet Explorer.

Anti-virus products traditionally do scanning of entire hard-drives to check files for viruses. But the ever increasing size of hard-disks and the millions of files that these hard-disks can store makes it practically impossible for anti-virus products to scan all the files within practical time limits. Since Microsoft's registry is not fully documented, anti-virus software often fail to catch viruses, which appear to resurface even after successful disinfections.

This is exactly what the MWAV toolkit attempts to solve. It searches deep into the registry, even looking for entries, which are normally not documented, and within minutes detects and removes viruses. The utility can also remove invalid and dead links inside the registry, which often cause unnecessary warnings to fill up the event logs.

Commenting on this development, Govind Rammurthy, CEO of MicroWorld Technologies, said, "Relatively undocumented auto-run entries inside the registry was a big hassle for customers and anti-virus vendors. The new MWAV will be a real boon to customers and hardware technicians."
