Hungary Therapeutic Water and Springs
Hungary has over a thousand natural hot thermal springs, the only country on continental Europe with such a large selection of thermal and therapeutic waters, bubbling to the surface at temperatures of up to 40° C.
They have been tapped at 150 hot-water spas. Thirty-six of them offer special types of therapy, with waters containing traces of radioactivity, sulphur and acids, various salts, brome and carbon, and iodine. Europe's only spa in a real cave is in Tapolca, NE Hungary. Hévíz, the best-known hot water (33°C) lake in Europe, is just a few kilometres from Lake Balaton in W Hungary.
Budapest, itself has over 120 springs that feed its spas and drinking fountains with thermal water. There are other internationally known spas at Balatonfüred, Harkány, Bük, Sárvár, Hajdúszoboszló and Gyula.
