Not that I'm believing that a desktop search tool is the first necessity no one can do without, I think most users are more than happy with standard windows search. Still, if you did realized that your file organization needs improvement and you failed to cope with gigabytes of unsorted data on our hard drives, you would be surprized how many very brainy people had taken pains to find brilliant solutions right for you.

The Google desktop search catalized the interest to this problem, yielding a great number of reviews, analyses, comparisons of the leading search engines like Copernic desktop search, X1, dtsearch, blinkx, etc. - all them are quite comprehensively featured in the recent CNET review (http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-3684_7-5536376-1.html).
