A decade ago, this wouldn't have been possible. Classified ads were confined to the tiny spaces in the Sunday paper. Back then you couldn't post free ads; you had to pay for them to get published in a tiny column hoping against all odds that it would catch someone's eye.
These days, with technology blinking at our faces, right under our fingertips, there's just no excuse not to do online shopping even for once. Surely, there's always something to sell even from your dusty garage, and there's always someone willing to buy it off your hands. With hundreds of people willing to sell just about anything, the concept of “hard-to-find” becomes a thing of the past. It's just somewhere, searchable and accessible by anyone, if you just type in the right keywords. The endless variety of goods available on the Net is what makes online classifieds exciting.
It's as if, besides being cyberpreneurs, people have also become both architects and inhabitants of a new virtual mall they have created, on their own terms.
If people can do business between themselves just fine without the help of the commission-charging middleman, then why not? If anything, online classifieds let people take charge, and decide their products' fate. It's certainly nice to know that there still are free things in this world.
And after all, the most beautiful of things are free!
