In this role Novel Creative will help the school build relationships with business and community organizations for its service-oriented projects. The agency is also charged with helping to change the perception of the school in the community. Crossroads Second Chance North Alternative School was founded in 2005 to address the needs of chronically disruptive students in Fulton County. Students enrolled have been expelled from their home schools and have received a waiver of their expulsion from a Tribunal Hearing to allow their attendance at Crossroads Second Chance North. Crossroads Second Chance North’s new service learning curriculum will involve its students in volunteer work, community projects and writing assignments. The curriculum will be based on Georgia’s Learn and Serve model. Crossroads Second Chance North was awarded funds in the amount of $50,000 to implement the curriculum over the next three years. “This new [service learning] curriculum will help our students understand their roles in society, and help them to realize the cause and effect of their actions and the decisions they make,” says Dr. Alicia Borishade, Principal of Crossroads Second Chance North. “We will have them give back to the community and constantly reflect on their experiences.” About Crossroads Second Chance North Alternative School Crossroads Second Chance North (http://www.fultonschools.org/school/crossroads_north) is an alternative school located in the Sandy Springs area of Atlanta, Georgia.
