Descrption:
Ms Taylor fell into debt after setting up her own business in Portsmouth.

She said: "When I was made redundant I decided to retrain as a life coach and move to Portsmouth to start my own business.

"However, setting up my own business in a city that I did not know well was difficult especially as the poor transport system made it a struggle to get to potential clients. I felt very isolated and my debt spiralled as I tried to pay for living and business expenses.

"I became depressed and by the time the banks came calling for their money I wasn't eating or sleeping properly.

"I don't blame the banks for my initial debt but once they knew the position I was in I think it was irresponsible of them to keep lending me money. First Direct lent me £24,500 and gave me a credit card worth £5,000 when they knew that I was already in £80,000 of debt. The banks were also very aggressive about getting their money back, Halifax, for example, called me 35 to 40 times a week.

"Since my bankruptcy, I have worked hard to get back on my feet and I now have two jobs whilst still pursuing my business; one working in logistics at Smeg and another working nights at the Inland Revenue - I now have a really good grasp of money!"
