The three ladies are the very first family of artists to ever be exhibited in the top 100 in the same year. Karen's painting "Out of the Shadows - Trumpeter Swan" was awarded "Peoples Choice" in the competition and will be a part of the national exhibition tour around the United States to various museums and galleries. The Arts for the Parks competition was created in 1986 by the National Park Academy of the Arts. The program is designed to celebrate representational artists, to enhance public awareness of the National Parks and to contribute to programs benefiting the National Park System. It is an annual competition that honors artists who have best captured the spirit of our National Park System. The organization's website, www.artsfortheparks.com, features a photogallery of the entire international competition. The Lathams are a family of artists painting animals, birds, and nature. Karen, and her two daughters, Rebecca & Bonnie, paint primarily in finely detailed watercolor and exhibit their paintings extensively in galleries and museums around the United States and abroad.
